What no one is telling the American people is how Congressmen and Senators are compensated to vote for a bill. Whenever there is a vote on the floor they go to those senators and congressmen who are allegedly undecided and ask them what they want for their vote. The Congressmen often agree to vote for a bill if they get a rider added. That rider helps that Congressmen’s constituent and often results in his getting paid as much as 10% of the income generated by that rider. This adds to the national debt. It is stealing from the American People. This is not a hearsay. I experienced this in action.
By the time I was 28 I was running 4 businesses. I had a remodeling company that made $7 million per year (we made 1500 to 2000 kitchens, bathrooms room additions, etc. per year) $7 million in my Time-sharing marketing company in Atlantic City. They had just opened Casinos. I had my own finance company, and I owned real estate.
My office manager’s ex-husband was a lawyer in the political arena. She called him and he arranged for me to have a meeting with the assistant secretary of Hud. I went to Washington and had lunch. The first thing he told me was about his girlfriend. He was married and did not know me at all. I was fascinated. He then went on to offer me contracts to build a section 8 housing project that I thought, based on the square footage, would have cost more than $20 million. However, to get that contract I would need to pay them 10% of the contract price. I was horrified and refused to do something that I perceived to be illegal. This was 40 years ago. I have forgotten my office mangers’ name. She was a redhead. For some strange reason I think the assistant secretary of Hud was nick named “Red”. You can verify part of what I am telling you by going back to the archives and you will see that the assistant secretary of Hud and a lawyer went to jail in the early 1980’s.
I left Baltimore when I was 35 in 1986. My cousin invited me to market and manage a medical clinic. Aids was the problem du jour. Several of the physicians I worked with were black. I called my friends in Baltimore. I had been a big fish in a small pond. I wanted to see if we could get some minority set aside work for doing Aids testing. My friends arranged for a meeting in the white house. I went the with Dr Chris Chede (I am not sure of the spelling of his name, but it will be in the white house logbooks) and Chris’s lawyer, Dwight James. Also at the meeting was Carl Dickerson, who I knew from the insurance industry. I started an insurance brokerage firm after I left the medical clinic. The assistant secretary under Ronald Regan was the final participant. He was a black Gentleman in his later 30s’maybe early 40’s.
We had lunch in the White House. George Bush Senior was at the table next to us. I cannot tell you how cool I felt. I was sitting in the White House having lunch next to the Vice President of the United States who I feel was one of our better and Presidents. He was underappreciated. He had the integrity to raise taxes as a Republican. This resulted in his losing the election to Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton received credit for balancing the budget which he could not have accomplished were it not for George Bush senior’s tax increase. I digress.
We talked in general about politics and the state of our world. We were told not to discuss why we were meeting while in the White House. We went to a hotel next door after lunch. They had reserved a room. It was not the Willard Hotel. It was a hotel on the street adjacent to it. I still have my Regan tie from that meeting.
Once there we learned that the assistant secretary was about to leave the White House, and he would get us the minority set aside work but he wanted 10% of the contract. This was part of his exit package from the White House.
THIS MUST STOP. This is one of the reasons why I am creating the Center Forward Party.
To accomplish this we must
- Create a group of highly intelligent apolitical people with experience in various areas to research and draft laws that will solve our countries problems in the most cost efficient manner. Congressmen and Senators should only vote for or against the bill. They should not be allowed to add riders to bills. This increases the cost and adversely impacts the bill as originally drafted.
- Congressman and senators should never meet with people without supervision. I suggest we increase their salaries to$750,000 for congressmen and $1,250,000 for senators. We should also give them Secret Service protection. The Secret service agent are police officers that will record all meetings and report any activities that are illegal or inappropriate. We must inspect what we expect.
- My hope is that by paying more money we can attract a better quality if person for these positions and make them feel they have something to lose if they are caught acting inappropriately. It will also enhance the electability of our candidates who will agree to comply with and vote for this bill.
- I hope the increased salary will attract a better more qualifies candidate.
- All Candidates should be required to take a personal test and Minnesota Multiphasic personality inventory (MMPI long Form) . This will allow us to see if they appear to have the right personality for this position. I have used these tests in the past. They are not infallible but they increased my success rate in my hires from about 50% to 75% and I ended up with a more intelligent staff. We will sue this as well to distinguish our candidates from the rest because our candidates will vote for this change.
