People make decisions emotionally and are usually wrong (Read the “Undoing Project” by Michaels Lewis. This is about the work done by Psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky. They won a Nobel Prize for this work in 2002.
We select people based on how they look and how they sound. It has very little to do with their ability to do the job. I hired a psychologist to work with me, and she had me implement two tests. One was an intelligence test that checked their verbal and math skills against the average person who applied for that job. Based on her recommendation I did not hire anyone who did not score at least 50%. This meant they were better than at least 50% of the people who were doing this type of work. My staff scored over 70%. We then did a personality profile. This checked for things like whether they were detailed oriented and how they would interact with my personality. By quantifying my decision, I was able to increase the percentage of the people who I hired that were successful at their job from 50% to 75%. It also made my business much more enjoyable. The staff was more intelligent and would ask questions if they did not understand something. People who are less intelligent are used to not understanding things and often embarrassed. As a result, they did not ask for help. I think this is a self-esteem issue.
Anyone can run for Congress regardless of their educational background. Don’t you think it makes sense that people who hold such an important position should be properly educated and pass a test apply for that job?
I suggest they be required to take and pass College level courses in:
- Either have a law degree or pass a course in Constitutional law
- Political Science
- Economics-Domestic and international
- International studies
They also need to take three tests
Intelligence Test designed for this position
Personality Profile
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) this will let us know if they have any serious psychological disorders like Narcissism (We believe President Trump is a Malignant Narcissist) This would have disqualified him from running.
People who run for political office are often fixated at a lower level of emotional development. They are motivated to go after these jobs to overcompensate for their feelings of inadequacy and get the emotional reinforcement to compensate for these feelings of inadequacy (Read “The Mature Mind “ by Overstreet”. These are not necessarily the best people for these positions We need people who are empathic and care about helping people that want to reinforce their ego.
We need people who have the proper decision-making style. They need to have two styles. One is quick and the other requires a lot of information to make decisions. Presidents need to require endless information before they decide. They only decide, by default, when they can’t find more information and are forced to decide. These are the most complex decisions in the world. The number and magnitude of these variables are much more than any business decision. Trump makes decisions with little or no information. He trusts his instincts which are usually wrong. He is the wrong person for this job.
